Detailed description of Foster Park Golf Course

Foster Park Golf Course is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

With the generous donations given by the Foster Family and the hard work of citizens, Fort Wayne opened its first public golf course in 1928. During the late 1930s the original 9 hole course was expanded to 18.

The course is fairly flat. There are some large trees that line the fairways, but there are no water hazards on the course. Shot accuracy is still important as numerous sand bunkers are incorporated into the course's design. The greens are a mixture of sizes.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,434 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,873 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 15, a par-5 that plays to 510 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 9, a par-3 that plays to 141 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 1, a 406-yard par-4 challenge, and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 12, a 173 yard par-3.

Heading home and decided to stop and play another quick nine (9) hole at this 1928 Parks and Recreation Public course.

This is an easy course to walk as the holes are "Side by Side" with mature scattered trees for separation. Very flat with scattered trees and a straightforward layout with most small firm greens bordered by LH & RH sand traps. Fairways are mowed on the narrow side, but the rough is very playable. They have four (4) tee boxes that play from Blacks at 6,812yds down to Reds at 4,650yds on this Par 36/35 layout.

The Front 9 (Black 3,380yds) starts right out with a 446yd Par 4 and protects its Hcp 1 rating by having a 10-15mph SW wind in your grill. This is followed by a 220yd Par 3 from the Black tees down to 140yds from the Reds. The #3 hole is another long 400yd Par 4, but it plays a little more friendly with the wind at your back unless you hit the RH green-side trap. The #4 is a straightaway 509 yds Par 5 with two (2) large trees boarding the front of the green, giving you a small narrow chute to the dance floor. The next three (3) holes (#5,#6,#7) are narrow tree-lined Par 4's playing 365-395yds, so stay in the short stuff. The #8 is a long narrow 500yd Par 5 with a left-to-right wind trying to blow your ball over the road on the righthand side to O.B. land.

The finishing hole #9 is a short Par 3 at 165-106yds to a small round green without any traps to scare you off. I would at least put a sand bunker across the front, so you have a little challenge, at least. I ended up walking nine (9) holes in 1hr 15minutes for $10 ($17 9/w cart) and shot 39 w/16 putts on this excellent Fall afternoon. I will come back and play the Back 9 (3,432 yds) Par 35 in the spring or maybe $30 18/cart. Excellent conditioned course, except the tee boxes being a little rough up because of their smaller size. Looking forward to returning and playing the complete 18-hole layout for $19 walking. (Side by Side layout)

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
